QUICK! If your British Passport was issued at the Brit Embassy in another country

.....what Country is its "country of issue"?

Is it the country where the British Embassy issued the passport, or is it United Kingdom?

Am trying to fill in document details on Easyjet's site.

Since British Embassies are supposed to be British Territory I should put UK...right?

Right?

Yes.

mumonthenet · 15/05/2010 10:51

Right?

I have passports in front of me now, am looking

Amapoleon · 15/05/2010 10:53

I think I put uk when we did ours.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/05/2010 10:54

Just checked with DH and he says yes to. All British Embassies are sovereign territory.

belgo · 15/05/2010 10:56

I can't see anywhere where is says place of issue; just 'authority'. I would put down the country it was issued in:

My passport says "bel' under authority meaning Belgium;

dd's passport was issued in Paris and under authority says FCO.

I can't see anywhere where is says place of issue; I would put down the country it was issued in:

belgo · 15/05/2010 10:57

Under Code says GBR

mumonthenet · 15/05/2010 11:01

mine says British Embassy Lisbon,

the kids' passports say FCO.

My passport is older.

Am putting UK as that is the passport's Nationality iyswim.

OP posts:
belgo · 15/05/2010 11:01

Just looked at Code of Issuing State for dd2's passport issued in Belgium, and that says GBR. I assume that is the same as country of issue?

belgo · 15/05/2010 11:01

FCO: foreign and Commonwealth Office

mumonthenet · 15/05/2010 11:10

oh god,

the bloody site has just lost all the data I put in. I must have taken too long dithering about it on MN!

Now have to start again.

Thanks for input, it's just got to be UK hasn't it?

OP posts:
Fenouille · 15/05/2010 11:40

Mine says D for Germany, so I always put Germany/Dusseldorf. Mine was issued in 2002 though so newer ones may be different. And it is/was a Consulate not an Embassy that issues/d passports in Germany so that might make a difference too?

FrakkedUpTheElection · 15/05/2010 11:40

Yes.

Issuing authority would be different (IPS or FCO) but the country which issues the passport is the UK.

Fenouille · 15/05/2010 11:44

Ah, sorry, I'm not being very helpful. You should put UK, but occasionally they ask for place of issue as well, in which case I add the issuing office.

mumoverseas · 15/05/2010 12:14

It is FCO. My passport was issued by the British Embassy in Saudi (as were kids) and that is what it says.

mumonthenet · 15/05/2010 12:15

Yep thanks, well, have put UK. On the kids' passports there's nothing at all about any country, ...only FCO. So UK can't be wrong.

On mine it states British Embassy Lisbon but that must be UK too.

Stoopid bureaucracy supposed to enhance our security or somesuch.

OP posts:
mumonthenet · 15/05/2010 12:24

ah yes Fen, though Easyjet's question is
"Country of Issue) and then there's a dropdown list. FCO isn't of course on that list..it has to be a country.

mumoverseas - so yours are the same as mine

Oh bugger, dh has just brought in a pan of burning potatoes. Gotta go.

OP posts:
Rosa · 15/05/2010 12:41

I have never put FCO or UK I am sure about that - I can't tell you what I have put as I can't remember . I would have thought British Embassy Rome.

FrakkedUpTheElection · 15/05/2010 13:53

The country which issues the passport is the UK. It's a British passport. It cannot be issued by any other country.

The issuing authority depends where you got it - if it's within the UK it will say IPS, if it's overseas it will either say FCO or the Embassy which issued it.

mumonthenet · 15/05/2010 16:18

Thank you frakked. Confirms what we all thought.

I went into London to get my passport renewed as It was previously renewed in Canada it could not be done without proof of me be born in the Uk!! Had to get a copy of by birth cert etc, so can't do the quick renewal.
