Sharm el Sheik Hotels - which?

Hi lovely helpful people!

Want to go to Sharm in either Ocotber or November - will there be much difference in the weather? Like it hot, but not TOO hot. How are the evenings - will I need a cardi, and is it very windy?

Also hotels:

We will not be taking our DCs this time, so the more couples-orientated the better. I don't mind if a few children are around, but I would try to avoid somewhere that is a haven for people with children, iyswim!

Not that fussed about lively nightlife, though a pleasant piano bar and decent cocktail menu would be nice.

I've heard that most Sharm beaches are rocky, but a few have manmade sandy bits. Prefer the pool, but some sand would be nice. Don't want to be hassled endlessly around the hotel and beach, so privacy and security important.

Might like to snorkel, but won't dive.

We will be booking direct, not a package. Has to be Sharm as our airmiles flights don't go to Hurghada.

Food quality and choice of restaurants v. important.

Will probably stay mostly glued to our sunbeds, but a trip or two out shopping or eating might happen.

Have looked at the review sites but as always, opinions (and my subconscious) are too easily skewed by the odd rogue review by the customer for whom everything went wrong! So, who better to ask, then you lovely lot?

General consensus seems to be that Four Seasons is best, (though not always good value for money?) followed by the Hyatt Regency. Thoughts please?

My DH fancies the Savoy, and it looks great but has had quite a few dodgy food reviews. Any experience?

The Ritz-Carlton has some great reviews and it seems substantially cheaper. what's the catch?

Am hoping to book in the next 24 hours - DH champing at the bit, so help is greatly appreciated.

Just realised this probably should have been in short haul. Sorry.

Hyatt Regency is Fab, been twice.

Four Seasons is fab - popular with families.

SIL likes the Hyatt a lot.

bluesky · 16/05/2010 15:43

replied to you properly in Short Haul.

Also forgot to say that the Hyatt also has a section for a bit more money where you get a separate pool, evening canapes etc, more staff, more of a club feel. You can still use the rest of the resort, but it's just a "posher" bit within the Hyatt.

Isit reasonable to go to Egypt for just a week-is it too far from the UK to do that?

hf128219 · 16/05/2010 16:16

It's only 5 hours away!

cornsillkwearsclogs · 16/05/2010 16:16

Is it! Oh right!

the four seasons is amazing.the savoy wasnt very good when we went about 5 years ago, caters mostly for russians so the food is great.
my friends came back from el gouna and raved about it.
november will be chilly in the evening.

If you go in early December, rather than November, there's a discount at Four Seasons www.totstoo.com/hotel_four-seasons-sharm-el-sheikh 7 nights for price of 6, which probably works out to quite a bit off. I know someone who went there and loved it.

We stayed at the savoy last October and it was FAB! The food was great and we had no probs! Our dd was 2 when we went and none of us got sharm belly! You also have soho square right outside which is nice! Family and child friendly. I would recommend! Weather is lovely at in oct, not windy, hot during day and just right in the evening! The savoy has it's own beach, not rocky, very clean, nice sand. The staff, reception, bar, restaurant all very friendly!

Four seasons superb. One of the best family hotels we've been to. Has snorkelling on site, small sandy beach, decenet food. Highly recommend. Fab family suites - 2 bed/2 bath, washer dryer etc.
