DH and I are hopefully off to Majorca in three weeks time with our 4.5yr old and 2.5 yr old DS's. We are staying in Cala Dor. Would really love to hear any tips and advice about places to go/see that would keep the boys happy and entertained during the day and also in the early eves. We will have a car but plan to keep most of the holiday chilled out - so would be nice to have a couple of good 'things to do/places to go' for when we do decide to move from the beach! Also, i heard that some bars have family entertainment in the eves - just wondered if anyone had good recomendations esp for the under fives. MTIA!

The aquarium is good, and has a lovely outdoor play area - a big pirate ship!

thanks guys. Anymore tips? 4.5yrold DS isreally into 'shows' at the moment and I'd heard some bars do fmaily entertainment in the early eves - is that so?

Go to Pirates, he'll love it! Book it yourself and not through a rep., make sure its the family and not adult version. It's in Magaluf but don't let that put you off! If you google pirates magaluf you'll find the details.

Oh, we're going to be in Cala Bona around then (we fly 4th June for 2 weeks). We stayed in Puerto Pollensa 3 years ago and loved it there but we stayed at the hotel in the evenings because the entertainment was laid on and it was just easier but think we'll try and get out a bit more this time round (this time ds1 is 7 and ds2 is almost 2).

We plan trying the caves out too as that looked good. We did some day trips last time but booked through the package holiday, sure can get direct though. I'll ask dh if he can remember the names and get back to you. One was horses rides/ride on Sangrea(sp?) wagon with line dancing/feast after. Other was a big water park.

We liked Alcudia too, not sure how far it is from you? We wanted to go again but it's quite a bit further away from Cala Bona than it was where we stayed before.

Have a lovely time

Hi Looneytune - any tips for places you could suggest would be fab. What was at Alcudia? We'll have a car and dont mind driving a bit once in a while. HEReandthere - woiuld the Priates show be too much for 2.5yr old DS? He's sat through 'Up' on DVD but not sure how we would react to sitting through a show. How long was it?

Majorca is a lovely place to holiday, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time. I've been to Port De Sollera number of times, there's a lovely horse shoe shaped beach with a tram that runs along the front to Soller, which has a market twice a week, Tuesdays and Saturdays I think...but do check.

Have a great time.

Amy

Been all over Majorca & I love it.
Last time we were there we stayed in Porto Colom. If your in/near that area I recommend a few restaurants HPC (v.swish & trendy. The octopus carpaccio was amazing); Florian (again v.swish but, more traditional) & La Roquetta for real majorcan food (fish soup & pig's trotter stew, may sound horrid but, so tasty!)

Definitely take a day sightseeing & shopping in Palma.

Take one of the glass bottomed boats-kids will love it.
The waterpark is great for them, too.

Go to Porto Cristo for the day,the Caves of Drach are nearby. A must do. There is an underwater lake where a string quartet sail in a gondola playing classical music.

Enjoy! Wish I was going now!

Sorry I never came back sooner, things manic!!

Just asked DH and the horsy thing was called Rio Grando. As for Alcudia, I can't remember exactly where it was but have a look on the map as it will be there. Was just a nice area and from what I remember was more of a town with shops etc. than where we were staying. But I don't know the rest of the island to compare it to other places.

Looks like you've got lots of tips from others now, very useful for me too

Have a great time

Oh, and ANY recommendations in Cala Bona would be great too

looneytune · 22/05/2010 11:35

littleoldme - I'm a bit late but just wanted to say you'll have a great time, it's lovely there

looneytune · 28/05/2010 18:16

Just bumping in case anyone has any recommendations for places in the Cala Bona area?

Holymoly321 · 29/05/2010 08:06

Drive to Soller and take the tram to Port de Soller, it is a short ride but I'm sure the children will enjoy it. There are nice restaurants at the port too. So it is a nice trip for all involved.

Soller main square is also a nice place to relax with a coffee and let the children run.

looneytune · 29/05/2010 11:45

Me too. We fly on Friday. Hope you have a great time

littleoldme · 30/05/2010 16:45

Well we had a fabulous time. A few recommendations:

Drive to the monastary at Lluc. It is a spectacular , if slightly hairy, ride. the church at the monastary is stunning as is the restaurant at the top of the car park. There;s also a beatiful church, gaerdens and plently of room for littles to run about.

The beach at cala san vicnez is very good for snorkelling.

We took the ferry to Formentor which has a very tranqil beach and was a fun ride.

The tram at Soller was abig hit too

vivasevilla · 02/06/2010 17:44

many Spanish people take a (cheap) paddling pool to the beach, you can use it as a sandfree playpen,(line with a towel, plastic sticks!) or fill it with sea water and they can use it to splash about in while you relax, have a beerare keeping an eye on them
