We are planning a trip to Hawaii, would you consider a stop over the break up the trip? if so where?

I didn't know you could fly direct. What about Los Angeles or San Francisco?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/05/2010 17:47

Either LA or San Francisco are good places to stopover in for a day or two before continuing on (the flight time from the West Coast to the Hawaiian Islands is around 6 hours). Another possible stopover destination is Seattle. All these cities have non stop flights to the Hawaiian Islands (most people fly to Honolulu on Oahu).

So a weekend in Disney in la could also happen??

Seattle would be nice, a city we both have not been to.

My Dh and I went a few years back although didn't fly direct we transfered same day on oubound and inbound. It was harsh on the body .. I think one stint was 23 hrs including a 5 hr wait at San Fran airport.I got terrible jet lag when we got back to UK, so worth taking that into account also not sure if your travelling with dc's?
I must say though I would do it again in a heart beat Hawaii is the most stunning place I have ever been to and we are looking to go back for my 30th next year .... O

I'd go direct to Seattle. Some regional airports go Amsterdam and then direct to Seattle or you can go to Heathrow. Stop over and then to Hawaii.

I've been to Hawaii twice and absolutely loved it.

First time we did a few days stopover each way in LA and had a great time. Second time we stopped just for the night in an airport hotel on the way (The Sheraton - £65 most comfortable bed I have ever slept in) but on the way back we flew straight back with 4 hours stop at the airport in LA. It was awful and I second LleytonsMummy about the jetlag.

I would definitely stop if you have DC with you, even if only for a night.

Enjoy

Hi, you have not said if you are travelling with DC and how old they are.
Anyway, we have taken our DC twice, the youngest was 6.
We flew straight to Hawaii, changing in LA, door to door about 24 hours. We then stopped 1st time for 3 days in LA to go to Disney and the 2nd time in San Francisco.
When we go on holiday we like to get there and then start to enjoy ourselves, getting over our jetlag whilst relaxing on a beach in laid back Hawaii is awsome.

I meant stopped on the return journey

I celebrated my 30th b'day in Hawaii - it was absolutely stunning. Would go back in a shot if the DDs were not quite so tiny. Which island(s) are you planning to go to?

It's a bloody long way, so I would stop for a couple of days in either LA or San Fran in both directions if I were you.

Pluto · 01/06/2010 15:29

Went to Hawaii for our honeymoon 13 years ago. Lucky you - it is really beautiful. Are you going to island hop or staying on Ohau?

I would really recommend a stopover in both directions, as Rindercella says - it's a very long way.
