Amsterdam, nice place to stay with dc?

I'm taking dd to Amsterdamm for a couple of days in June to visit the Van Gogh Museum. We also want to do a canal tour and go to the Anne Frank house.

Can anyone recommend a nice easy-going place to stay with dc (she is 9 so not really small), perhaps reasonably convenient to those places or with good public transport connections to the centre of town?

I see the Van Gogh Museum is on Museumplein in the Paulus Potterstraat. The Anne Frank Huis is on Prinsengrach, about 20 minutes walk from the central station.

We stay in the novotel .
Not in the centre but an easy tram ride of about 15mins,tram leaves from really near hotel.
Recommend buying Ann Frank house tickets online because the queue for tickets on the day is massive. With online tickets you get a time slot and bypass the queue!!!!

thanks Ollie, that's a good tip about buying the tickets online in advance, I hadn't thought about there being a long queue. Did you watch the film? The website says there is a first film as you come in which parents may choose not to watch since it contains scenes from concentration camps. Think we'd skip it but just wondered how harrowing it was.

The American Hotel on Leidseplein is lovely. Gorgeous art-deco hotel and very child friendly.
