Formula feeding babies on planes

I have read other threads on this and understand that if you take any fluids you're going to have to drink them when you go through airport security.

My plan is to take a couple of empty bottles, 2 x sachets of milk powder and ask the stewardesses for water once on the plane to make up milk as dd2 (11 months) just has milk mid afternoon and at bedtime - can anyone see any flaws in this? Are they not allowed to give you hot water on the plane?

It sounds fine to me, can you phone the airline to ask for their advice? Deffo. you can have hot drinks on most flights!

No problem with this. The airlines are pretty accomodating and I have not heard of one that does not serve hot drinks on board.

Yes, we did this.

Also you can ask in a coffee shop airside for boiling water and make it up before you get on the plane (if you want to be able to give it to your DD on takeoff/ascent).

Also were able to buy some of those tetrapaks of milks in Boots airside.

Which airport are you flying from? Just find the number for the boots branch airside and ask them to reserve some of the cartons for you. We do this every time we fly and it works well. They put them behind the counter with your name on for you to pick up before the flight.

Fabulous ideas, thanks ever so much!
I'll get a fresh feed made up before we board so I have some warm milk ready for takeoff and grab a couple of cartons for the bedtime feed - and save the sachets for on the way back when I'm guessing they won't stock Cow and Gate at the airport in Tenerife! Mumsnet is ace.

I travelled to and from Oz with DS when he was 9 months and just took the powder for his milk. The airline were more than happy to give water and to heat/cool it for him.

We've flown with both BA and Virgin who were happy to heat the bottles up on the flight (bought ready made bottles at Boots after security as suggested earlier). May be worth checking airline will heat the bottle for you if you need it. Airports on way back just waved us through with bottles of formula without tasting so bit hit and miss I think.
