Any recommendations for good reliable car hire companies in Mallorca. Have found a few cheapy ones online but all seem to have dreadful reviews and am wondering whether we just need to sod it and pay more and go with someone like Avis. Any recommendations gratefully received.

I can't help with a recommendation but we hired a car at Palma and the childs car seat they provided was dire. It was really stressful; no one would help us fit it and it was the last thing we needed after travelling.

It might be worth checking the car seat situation in advance.

We have hired with a company called Vanrell. It will be about 400 euros for a week in the six weeks holiday. We decided to use them after a couple of posts on here recommended them.

Last year we used a company called Hiper. We booked in advance and picked up from their office in puerto pollensa. They were really friendly and we had no problems at all. I can't remember the cost but it was quite cheap

If you're thinking about car seats (the booster sort rather than the ones for younger children) it might be worth looking at buying Bubble Bums before you go. We have some and they are so easy to take with you because they flat pack and you know for sure you're not going to get landed without one when you arrive! Look at Bubble Bum Website.
Ours arrived really quickly too!

We used Centauro (Booked through Holiday Autos) when we went to Majorca a few weeks ago.

Brand new car, much bigger than the one we had booked and a system where you are given a car full of petrol and expected to return it full, rather than pay for a whole tank of petrol an not get refunds on what you don't use (Sixt did this the year before when we went to Majorca- don't touch them they are rip off merchants)

We used carjet...cheapest and decent car..

Just to say we used Centauro last week and they completely swizzed us on the petrol! GAve us a full tank and made us pay €70 for it. Which is hidden away in their T&Cs and standard for all car hire over 3 days. Just a warning! Also the car seat they provided us with was dire but I guess that's pretty standard. The other more scary thing was the minibus ride from the terminal to their office. A 7 minute journey with a 12 week old in the back of a minibus with no car seat is no fun.

i would efinitely pay more to use hertz or avis

we went with record go! last year and ut was DIRE. The car stank, the car seats were virtually useless... dirty and broken
although the cost online was much cheaper, they then stung us a huge amount for the compulsory insurance and the compulsory tank of petrol at a hugely inflated price

i would never use a cut-pprice place again

a friend of mine regularly uses avis and has always had decent car seats and stuff

We used this place when we went 2 weeks ago. No probs, car seat included in the price and was fine.

Alamo are really good, use them whatever country we go to, always reliable and always have carseats when we have booked them. I think there is a branch at Palma airport

Just marking this as we're flying out next Friday and were thinking about car hire
