Any San Francisco mumnsnetters or anyone know SF area?

Hi wanted to et some advice rewally we are hoping to go but wanted to check with someone a couple of things anyone able to help?
1, Lake tahoe is is all skining or would it be okay in November?
2, we are planning SF 2nights, napa 1 night, lake tahoe 4 nights, sacremento 1 night back to Sf i night what d you thingk?
plus we will ahve a 16month old

Hi, we've been to Lake Tahoe several times with kids but we go for the skiing - what are you planning to do there in November?? I expect it won't be snowy at the lake level even if it is in the mountains, but you have to drive in across the mountains and if there's a snowstorm you can't get through.....tbh, I wouldn't go to Tahoe with a baby at that time of year (without a baby you could spend all day in the casino and it doesn't matter what the weather's like ). But it really depends what you want to do there....it's a lovely place whatever the season. Sorry if this isn't much help!

yep this what we are wondering what would we do all day if the weathers bad as we wouldnt fancy walking around - do you know if yosemite is any better that time of year?, thanks

I'd be inclined to head south from SF at that time of year - we once went skiing in Tahoe and then drove south to LA for Disneyland (that was a long day's drive!). But if you stay on the coast you could go to Monterey, we went there in December once and it was lovely (not too cold AND fresh seafood, yum). You don't need to go all the way to LA, there are loads of cool places on the coast. Or there's more than enough to keep you busy in the Bay area for a week and you could do a touring holiday another time. Yosemite is great but chilly in November I would think.

I think your original plan has a lot of driving involved.

Re Yosemite, accommodation there often gets fully booked up months in advance.

Would spend more time in SF personally speaking, it is hard to keep packing, unpacking then moving on to another destination for only another short time.

I'd definitely say calm it down a little, we took dd to visit friends in SF when she was 10 months and it was pretty exhausting just getting over the flight!

Lake Tahoe really is gorgeous, but the ski resorts won't be open in November for either skiing or walking/biking. It's a nice spot to potter round but you might find it a bit lacking at that time of year. Plus it's a three and a half hours drive when the weather's good and when the weather isn't you'll need chains etc etc. Yosemite is even further and with the same problems.

I think you'd be better off staying in the bay area and doing day trips. Marin County is gorgeous, Sausilito (I don't think I spelt that right!) is a nice trip out. Even Napa's quite a way although Santa Rosa is do-able. Would agree taking the 1 down the coast to Monteray is nice, Santa Cruz on the way...

We used to live in the East Bay and while not exactly a tourist resort, a day trip out on the BART to do some shopping in Walnut Creek or similar is a good family trip.

SF will be foggy and quite chilly in November, it'll be a good deal warmer the other side of the bay.

Oakland Zoo is great, the Exploratorium in SF is good for kids, even littlies, Monterey Aquarium is not to be missed.
