Resorts/villages in Liguria

Anyone been to Liguria in Italy? I am trying to pinpoint a village/town or resort to start looking for a villa. We are open to beach resort, town or mountain village as long as there is at least a few shops/coffee shops nearby (preferably walking distance).

Loano is very nice. Good beach - old town centre. Lots of shops and restaurants and a really nice promenade. At the other end of the Riviera, places like St Margherita Ligura and the Cinque Terre villages are gorgeous. Or Portovenere/Lerici. We have stayed in various "residences" though rather than villas. It is a beautiful part of the world.

Thank you. I will check all of these out. By 'residences' do you mean houses?

I can't wait now

"Residences" as in apartments with hotel services. Like this

We also stayed here for a week. Deiva Marina is a quiet little place (though has some good restaurants) but is very handy for reaching the Cinque Terre / Portofino etc by train. Bet you can't guess how I chose my name

FS is jumping with joy!

Thank you. I have been looking for somethign like this. The one in Deiva Marina looks good - did you share with DCs. Looks a little cramped is all I am thinking.

We stayed before dcs in the main building in a studio apartment. The dependance next door has 2 bed apartments. The owner was lovely and the downstairs of the main building is a cafe/ice cream parlour. It is about 2 mins to the beach and 5 mins to the train station. We didn't take/need a car.

We flew to Genoa and took the train down the coast. We went in September so we sunbathed on the beach by ourselves whilst the locals sat there with their coats on lol. We had some lovely food. The Cinque Terre villages are absolutely gorgeous and 10 mins away by train. I will always remember the sunset over Vernazza before stuffing myself with the most gorgeous lobster linguine ever. In season you can do lots of boat trips.

Portofino is obviously worth visiting. It is drop dead gorgeous and obscenely expensive. Easy day trip though. It really is a beautiful area and Portofino not withstanding, prices were reasonable. Deiva especially. We want to move there one day (when we win the Lotto)

Lerici is very nice! The bay of Poets. I think Byron or someone drowned there whilst trying to swim across! How romantic! Honestly it is lovely!
