Are attractions (eg Eden Project) and roads unbearably overcrowded in August?

Just wondering...We are thinking about booking somehting last minute, but don't want to be stuck in endless traffic jams.

I don't expect the Eden Project would be that bad as it is a massive site and with the weather not being great everyone isn't flocking there. As for the traffic, well I wouldn't let that put you off. If you are thinking of Cornwall and you have to do the M5 then a word of warning that traffic is heavy around Bristol but I think it is only a localised problem. Have fun!

Oooh! I'm about five minutes away from eden project as well.
I think weather not being great makes more people go there and roads to get there are only small so loads of traffic queues.

Would it be nice in December?

Yes, they do have different themed things organised all year round. Last winter they had an ice-rink there. Didn't go myself but friends who did said it was great.

I think they are having it made into a massive santas grotto in december. Although could be a rumour so dont take my word for it. wow justmummy, someone else from not so sunny cornwall!

Oh I am hoping for good weather! We are setting off for Cornwall on Tues morning, staying overnight at the Premier Lodge in Bodmin who are kindly giving us a room to sleep 5. Then we can be at the campsite early the next morning giving us loads of time to put up our trailer tent, only done it once before! We are staying at Carlyon Bay camp site nr the Eden Project and are hoping to go, I see they are doing a night time Jungle Safari, do you local mums know if thats worth doing? Just praying for some sun to keep us all happy, as I am not a happy camper!

Hi slotnicki
We went to Eden last Monday. The local roads were quiet, and Eden was quiet until about 12, then busier but not too busy. It was far less busy than last time I went, 4 years ago.

It was great! And the food in the main restaurant is good and not too pricy. There are also kids art activities and a storyteller. Hope you have a great time.

Hi Triplets - our weather forecast starting Tuesday is pretty good sunny and possibly a bit overcast. They don't forecast rain. Hope you all have a great time.

Thanks oooggs, if you see a frazzled 50 something mother with a 60 something husband and 3 x7yr olds say hello, it will be us!

one thing - don't treat it as a wet weather outing - everyone else does and it will be horribly packed - plus much of the site is outdoors anyway. have a lovely time, cornwall is fantastic

Hi I was just wondering if anyone local had used their Free school ticket yet and stayed on for the Jungle nights experience? is it worth going to. I live fairly local and glad to see some locals are MNrs too! am getting a bit lost of ideas of "something exciting to do " that doesnt cost a fortune.

I went to the Eden Project at Easter and it was mobbed and very boring anyway.

Also it's a really long drive with no dual carriageway.

I really hated it. I came out angry, upset, conned and fleeced. I wanted to complain to someone it was so bad.

And I love plants!

Appalling at Eden Project when we went 3 yrs ago, would never do it again in high season, although once in there it is a pretty fab day, kids were bored beyond rigidity though.
Paignton Zoo was a pretty good day out though.
personally for kids I rate Legoland the best one and only one worth the travel, bloody expensive but makes for very happy kids.
