Want to hire a car but other named driver is on a different flight

We are all heading off on hols and want to hire a car while we are there. Our friends will arrive before us. They have one designated driver in their party and we have one designated driver. How does that work? Any ideas? Please dont make me phone them!!!

I think both drivers have to present themselves when hiring the car, because they have to see both drivers licenses.

YOu might find out that one person can rent the car, and then go back with the other driver to have them added on but you'd have to call the rental car co. to check:

a) if they'll let you do this
b) if you have to go back to the original rental location to do so
c) if you could go to a different location of the same company to have another driver added, if that's more convenient.

Is it not easier to rent a car each. esp if you're arriving at different times.

thanks for your reply. We dont really need 2 cars as we will mainly be chilling. Its just for the occasional trip into town etc. Thats a good idea re adding on 2nd driver as our friend will come and pick us up at the airport anyway.
