Driftwood Spars is very nice, beach over the road, micro brewery, live music, good food and great landlady!

Thanks everyone..

Mad4mainecoons, do you know what Gunards Head at Zennor is like? Trip adviser has not been very complimentary about staff but the place sounds just gorgeous..also is there a boutique hotel round the back in padstow, called No.One or something? I seem to remember a non stein place which looked nice down a back street when we were there last summer. Will padstow be packed in early Sept? When do the masses of people ease up as I know it can be pretty busy in Aug??

So many questions...sorry!

Lola, I haven't stayed at the Gunards Head but have eaten there and the food was amazing. The location is very remote with lots of stunning walks on your doorstep. Alaistair Sawday's website is v complimentary and I generally find his recommendations are spot on.

mad4mainecoons · 25/04/2010 19:44

Oooooh! Never been to Zennor! thats too far from home for me, lol.

yes padstow will be packed in August - best to stay away. come mid september once the schools have gone back or if we get a good spell of weather come early october. there is a non stein restaurant called No6 which is fantastic and also Margot's bistro - throughly reccomended.

not heard of a hotel called number one but it may well exist.

away from padstow, the Port William at Trebarwith Strand is stunning, its on the coast towards tintagel.

good luck.

Last week we stayed at Channings Hotel, St Ives.. it was perfect. David & Shirley were fantastic with the kids... made us feel very welcome, there was a nice bar, optional evening meals (but there's loads of amazing restaurants there anyway), breakfast were yummy, loads of choice, great value for money, with views of the bay and just a few minutes walk from the town and beaches... family and double rooms, their number 01736 799500.
Loads to do in St Ives, once you get there you don't even need the car again!
