Breastfeeding in Turkey?

We're taking our 3-month-old to Turkey in June. We're not going to a big resort with lots of foreigners; we're going to what we're told is a fairly small town called Akyaka (Gokova) on the coast an hour from Dalaman. Apparently it's "where the locals go on holiday". Does anyone know whether breastfeeding in public would be acceptable here (I'm thinking of obviously being as discreet as possible using a muslin or sarong).

I've never been to Turkey but AFAIK most countries in the world are more breastfeeding in public friendly than the Uk with higher breastfeeding rates as well so I really shouldn't worry.I'm sure it will be seen as normal. I'm sure you'll be fine with a muslin or cloth over your shoulder.

Have a good time!

I used to live in Turkey and I breastfed my baby until she was over a year and I never had any problems anywhere. My husband is Turkish and if our baby needed feeding he would just tell me to feed her whether we were on a bus, in a restaurant, on the beach, anywhere!

I never bothered with a muslin cloth or anything and no-one ever took notice of me.

You will be fine, don't worry, it is more acceptable there than her in the UK I think.

We have an apartment in Turkey and will be going in June for the 5th year running and will be taking our DD who will be 9 months. Last year we did a bit of research and asked numerous people if it would be OK to breast feed and they all said it would be fine no problem at all.

Have a fantastic holiday, Turkey is beautiful and the people are fantastic. Your LO will be welcome everywhere. Oh and please don't be suprised if people offer the take little one while you eat, we saw several waiters amusing LO's or pushing them round in buggies.

I have been to Akyaka, it's lovely, some wonderful restaurants including one which i think was called Golden Egg. BF is fine there, it's a very westernised, although Turkish resort.
