Summer weekend at Legoland = insanity?

My husband is keen to take our 2 children (8 and 6) to Legoland sometime between now and August. Given our work schedules, it will have to be on a weekend. Are we crazy? A lot of reviews talk about huge queues at peak times - and I assume all weekends are peak times? Are there any weekends that are better than others?

We went on Monday (DS didn't start back at school until Tuesday but most local schools were starting on Monday) and that was what I thought of as quite busy half an hour to 45 minutes for the big rides (although the "queuing time" boards were generally reporting times about double what they actually were). I suspect for a summer weekend queues would be about twice that. If you pay for a Q-Bot it may not be too bad there are smaller rides that you could occupy yourselves on while the Q-Bot queues for you. I wouldn't do it myself, mind you...

I swore we would never go there again after the last time - every ride is nearly an hour to queue. I think we managed a total of 5 rides in a whole day. If you are going, I would get there very early - before the park opens. Be in the queue to get in as it opens and then head to the back of the park to the bigger rides and work your way to the front.

But I would really recommend Gullivers as an alternative - miles shorter queues and just as good! No lego though!
