Majorca - somewhere funky or chic please?

Hello. I want to take my dm, dh, and two dd's to Majorca [again, yawn]. But we have to go in the school holidays though, whereas we always went in spring. I'm worried we wll land into a stereotypical Brits abroad holiday if I don't do some serious ground work. None of us are in the mood for screaming groups of hens and baying stags.

Although if I get invites to such an event I'll be there

We need people watching, cafe stops, lovely shops and general trappings of unaffordable luxury. I looked into staying in Palma, but all the hotels with pools are £slly.oo.

Any tips for a region - ideally handy for the city as we love a mooch around the shops?

Clearly I am skint and paying, so I'll need tol try book a little gem of a hotel and get some cheap flights. Sadly can't afford any of the higher end tour people or the villas etc. One day............

Soller is a lovely place.
El esplendido hotel puerto Soller is really funky as is its sister hotel the portixol in Palma.

Pollensa old town has lovely village square and restaurants to eat at.

Palma has some funky bits too , Puerto Andratx also really nice as is cap de formentor.

There are lots of nice places in Mallorca away from the magaluf type 'brits abroad' holiday but unfortunately the nice bits are pretty expensive.

Drooling at El Esplendido!!

Thank you for the tip offs, I will hunt cheaper lodgings in these areas. Soller does sound lovely

west coast is lovely and quieter. get a family hotel or else rent. I think james villas have stuff there and have also successfully used owners abroad

Thanks overthemill. Any tips on actual place names? Not that I'm anal at all......it's hard planning a holday for someone else [mum], lots of pressure to get it rght.

Porobably can't afford a villa, and actually would prefer a hotel or apartment so older dd can meet a few little friends .
