Anyone's flights cancelled booking through Expedia?

Hi,

We're having a lot of trouble with a break to New York meant to be leaving today, booked though Expedia. The airline (Virgin) has been very helpful and arranged flights for tomorrow, but despite phoning them all day today, Expedia is not answering its phones, only having an automated message saying 'due to unforeseen circumstances we can't answer...'.

The hotel has said that the room is lost unless Expedia calls them on the passengers' behalf to reschedule, but obviously that can't be done.

Is anyone dealing with Expedia today on a similar issue, and if so, what have you done?! At the moment the break will be lost because it's not worth the risk of arriving in New York with no accommodation at gone midnight and having to pay out twice.

Please help if you can

What about ringing the hotel directly? As long as yo uhave your booking ref etc I can't see that they would have a problem.

Thanks SnailWhaleTail. Yes, have rung the hotel directly, and they were the ones who (quite rudely) said that they did not deal with customers directly, and that they would only change the booking if Expedia rang them by 12noon tomorrow. Which is impossible because we can't get hold of Expedia! Arrgh. They said that if Expedia didn't ring to notify them of the change, the booking would be lost, taking away the booked accommodation entirely. Seems a bit unreasonable.

I have a very nice hotel room in Manhattan booked that I can't get to!

Its paid for and can't be cancelled. You're welcome to it, but its not going to do you any good if you're not already there!

I haven't been able to get through to Expedia either, its the first and the last time I will be using them, they are crap

ooosabeauta · 16/04/2010 20:25

Oh that is sweet kiwinyc, thanks, but you're right.

Expedia has been unbelievably crap. Have you been able to get through to them at all? Sorry you're in the same position

No, not at all, but i wrote them an email and said that there was no other way that i could contact them despite trying repeatedly and that i was disappointed that they hadn't put anything on their website advising customers what do so. This afternoon i noticed they finally put a useless and pointless generic msg up that offered no help at all.

If you have a package (flight and hotel booked through them) they will pay out for a a full refund (if you ever manage to contact them to request it) because you're ATOL protected but I only booked non-refundable accommodation which they might apparently refund under 'extenuating circumstances' but which I think they will still probably wriggle out of.

Sorry you've missed out on NYC this weekend too but you will get all your money back at least.

That is really helpful, thank you. I'll look into how they expect you to get that back... It's bizarre that they can just disappear at a time like this.

I'm really sorry that you can't get your accommodation back. What a nightmare. Thanks so much for your help though.

Ooosabeauta - have you had any success getting through to Expedia? I get nowhere calling from my mobile, it doesn't even connect in order to start ringing let alone to get that message telling you they can't answer before they cut you off! Have been trying all weekend.

I'm really fecked off with them!

The only bright note is that my insurance has extended coverage and say they will cover my lost accommodation now so here's hoping.

Good luck getting your refund!

Kiwinyc · 19/04/2010 22:59

Ooh I'm pleased to report I just got am email from Expedia telling me i've got a full refund for my hotel accommodation! They didn't wriggle out of it after all!

Might even consider using them again now! Am sure you will have the same positive outcome Ooosa - just request a refund in their enquiry form at the bottom of your itinerary (log in to see it)

Hi Kiwi, sorry I only just spotted this thread again after not being online much this week. Congratulations on your refund. I'm pleased to say that Expedia were very nice on the phone (eventually) and have given a full refund. They seemed to have got it all sorted and made no attempt to argue. Phew! Thanks for your advice!
