Can anyone help with a day spa in London?

I have tried really hard to find somewhere myself without resorting to asking Mumsnet, but after hours of searching I am going mad.
I am organising a hen do for my very lovely friend and myself and her other good friend want to take her to a spa.
We want somewhere where we can relax and have a steam, sauna, dip in a pool perhaps and a lounge around with some herbal tea for a bit of a gossip. We would also be treating her to a couple of treatments.

I really don't want to take her to the Sanctuary as I think it is a bit inpersonal and tired around the edges and a bit formulaic.

I just want somewhere lovely that won't break the bank!

Thanks

I have to say I've been looking for the same thing. I have heard the Amida Spa is good, which is what I've booked but not been there yet.

Other than that, the ones in London all seem either hideously expensive or they're just glorified salons with no pool.

Thank you very much. I have had a look and it looks good.
I cannot see any prices on the website which is always a bit of a worry.
Is it hideously expensive?

Hi I was going to say The sanctuary is starting to get a bit worn out now.

I don't know which Amida you mean but the one I've been to (middlesex) is lovely. Can't comment on prices as my friend worked there so she got us in.

Went to a nice one with dh (think it may have been near centrepoint??) anyway it was from lastminute.com and we had a chocolate lovers package. It was 2 for 1 so good price. That was a v nice place too-lunch included. Sorry can't remember what it was called.

girls, was it this one? This was the one I was thinking of too - never actually been but it's near work and looks really nice...

girlsyearapart · 15/04/2010 08:54

yes! that's the one. We were booked on the chocolate indulgence day but i have a feeling we changed it cos I was pregnant..

was lovely though that was 2 years ago nearly now.

ps- anyone who likes spas Champneys have a bring a friend for free in june. It's roughly 140 quid each for 2 nights 3 days all classes meals and two mini treatments for lead booker. I can't wait

Thanks everyone - I have booked the Amida in Hampton. Hopefully it will be lovely.

Not right for a hen do, but a good place to go with your DH on Sundays is the Porchester

It's much cheaper than a normal spa (about 20quid to get in, treatments extra) and you can get a treatment that's not available anywhere else, called a shmeisse. It's unlike anything else you've ever heard of and it's fab!

The Sanctuary have redone their upstairs lounge (about Feb I think) and it is gorgeous now, but the koi carp pool area needs attention I think. Also it is too crowded.

girlsyearapart · 15/04/2010 18:59

that is the one I went to iwish very nice it was too.

You can probably do gym classes too if you fancied it..

clare I last went to the sanctuary before that so missed it. Last time we went the koi carp bit was so crowded and full of people talking extra loud. Still like it there though and wouldn't say no to a day!

girlsyearapart - Can I ask did you go on a Saturday? It is part of the David Lloyd and I am concerned we are going to be over run with people sweaty from the gym and it won't be much fun!

we went the day before my wedding so it must've been a friday.

It wasn't david lloyd then though but still pretty much the same afaik.

Thanks - It may be a different experience now as it is attached to the health club.
Gah - it's so hard to choose when you can't traipse from one side on London to the other checking them out.
