Car Seats USA

Hi,
We're off to Boston in 3 weeks with our 3 yr old and 4 month old and renting a car to drive up to Portland. 2 yrs ago we rented a car in the US and I really wasn't very impressed by the child seat the rental company gave us. They didn't know how to fit it and the straps were quite worn. With a lot of fiddling we made it safe, but I didn't feel content with it. This time I am seriously considering taking our own seats - but as we're only using a car for 4 days it's a lot of stuff to cart around. Does anyone have any advice? Experience? Recommendations of good car rental companys?
Many Thanks

You probably are better taking your own. We have rented from various companies from Boston in teh past and none of them supply very good car seats -and it's not cheap - about USD 20 per day per seat if I remember correctly!
Mine are past that stage now thank goodness and we just pack a booster for dd.

I'd take my own. We are going in October and will be taking our own seats then although we are going for 3 weeks.

Friends of ours went last year and were shocked by the car seat hire costs. They were charged over $200 to hire one so on their second day they went and bought one much cheaper and then took the rental one back and got a refund for the unused days.
