I'm looking for somewhere to go for a week in mid-Sept with DH and 2 DCs - 3yo and 6mo. Would like somewhere warm (not baking hot), on sandy beach and with hotel pool (perfect if there was also an indoor pool if gets dark early); flight up to 4hrs max. Have thought of Sharm, Crete, Cyprus or Lido di Jesolo but would welcome views and/or other ideas.

What kind of budget do you have in mind?

asteri · 14/04/2010 14:55

You mentioned Crete, have you considered any other Greek island,Kos is lovely and Tigaki has a beautiful sandy beach, its reasonably priced and theres a lot to do.
Protaras in Cyprus is also lovely but from what I remember it tends to stay hotter longer (so it may be a bit too hot still in September). I mean it depends really what kind of place you are looking for there are some lovely places in Rethymnon in Crete also.
Sorry, I dont seem to be helping too much, I lived in Greece and Cyprus for 7 years and I loved it and so I tend to waffle rather than help......sorry.

sorry to hijack but asteri, I am looking at Rethymnon, how far is it from the airport?

girlywhirly · 14/04/2010 17:30

You could look at flying from Gatwick to Chania in Crete, the other end of the island. Or Paphos or Coral bay area in Cyprus. Or how about Corfu, only 3hr flight, there are some fab beaches there. I'm going to Corfu mid-May for a week, already salivating at the thought of all that greek food!

hi startagain, sorry was offline for a bit yesterday, it takes about an housr and a half (give or take 10-15mins) to get to Rethymnon from Heraklion Airport.

hour not housr...d'oh

We have done Crete nr Chania (Horofakia actually) with Simply Travel in Sept and it was perfect weather and lovely little sandy beaches to hang out all day. Also ate the best Greek food ever.

Had a 15mth old and 4yr at the time.

Corsica is also lovely in Sept and has some shallow sandy beaches that are absolutely idyllic I would love to go back there.

Definitely take advantage of holidaying in Sept while you can, its the perfect time and so much cheaper too.

I too love Crete and Kos and have also stayed in Tingaki (my favourite place in Greece) and Rethymnon.
Greek foor is a weakness of mine haha.

However, i now live and work in Tenerife and have a small childcare buisness offering day and night time care.

This island has loads to do for children and adults of all ages.

I am currently working in the iberostar gran anthelia hotel and the kids club is great but the mini disco and show after even better and something different every night of the week.
Last night was a beatles tribute, tonight, an amazing magic show and tomorrow there is fleminco ... i feel like i am on holiday too hehe.

If you want to know anything else then please dont hesitate to ask.

Lisa.
