Sardinia

Has anyone been to Sardinia. We are thinking of getting a villa / apartment and any recommendations are appreciated.

BTW we are taking our 2 year old DS so if there are any activities (apart from the beach) we could do with him that would be good to know.

Been to Alghero a few years ago - twice. Nicest beach (in Europe) I have ever been to, beautiful place, fabulous food etc.
I did go pre-children but I would say beach, sea and gelati should be enough to keep most 2 year olds happy!
Think there is a fancy resort in the north of the island (Forte Village or something?) that probably has lots of activities/child minding etc.

Forte Village is wonderful, and we spent several happy holidays there when ours children were younger. It has become (even more) expensive though!

We are only limited (ish) budget so think Forte Village is out of the question.

Alghero is where the airport is I think so would be nice if we didn't need to travel far when we got there.

My DH wants to look at other destinations but I fancy Sardinia as it seems to have nice beaches and you have Italian food.

There is a cheapish hotel/self catering place called Oasis I think, about 15 mins drive away from Alghero and across the road from a fabulous long stretch of beach, with a nice ice cream parlour and restaurant nearby. Alghero is lovely for a day trip or early evening drinks... am tempted to go back there myself .
Food great - especially if you are a lover of seafood.

Sardinia is gorgeous - we went on our honeymoon.

Photos here Excuse my ugly mug!

We stayed the other side of the island close to the Costa Smeralda (flight to Olbia). DH has travelled the world and said the beaches were amongst the most beautiful he had ever seen. Food was lovely too. And dd (15 months at the time) was fussed over by everyone.

We will be going back!

There are a couple of airports in Sardinia - so be sure you're flying to the right one!!

Thanks for the photos Porto it looks lovely. Think I might have to twist DHs arm and go there it looks stunning.

Hi Lou, you might want to look at www.justsardinia.co.uk. I have just booked to go there in July and after days of searching found this site to be fairly reasonable and loads of family friendly accommodation

I went to the Costa Smeralda too and it was just gorgeous. The sea is a colour that made me gasp with wonder.
