Eastern seaboard /Boston

We're thinking of a 2 week holiday to Massachusetts area next July- anyone been? Reccommendations?
Dcs will be 12 and 15 (eek!!)
I have visions of us having a clapboard house on the beach...budget about £7000. We are pushing the boat out.

Ok I lived In Boston for nearly 4 years so I can hopefully help!

If you want a clapboard house on/near a beach there are a few towns within a couple of hours of Boston that are nice: Ipswich, Newburyport, Point Judith, Newport, Cohasset, Crane Beach, most of Cape Cod, then there's the island of Martha's Vineyard which is simply gorgeous.

And there's also Maine to consider too. Old Orchard Beach has a funfair and pier and would be a lot of cheesy fun for your dc.

Or you could consider Nantucket - smaller than Martha's Vineyard and even lovelier IMHO. I have a dream of spending a summer in a clapboard house on the beach in Nantucket one year!

Watch out for that man though!

We have visions/hopes to do this with DC's, Cape Cod is lovely, we ould like to do maybe a few days in NY, go up to Cape Cod and then finish in Boston. The aquarium in Boston is amazing.

The man from Nantucket!

Whalewatching is fantastic - the best place to do it from is Province Town at the tip of Cape Cod as this has the shortest trip out to the feeding grounds and so less time getting bored on a boat.

And if you are pushing the boat out then try and get your clapboard house close to the National Seashore. DCs will enjoy body boarding in the surf.
