Hello there, we are going away at the end of May to Morocco for 2 weeks (flying to Marrakesh). We are looking for places to go on the coast for a few days on the beach (weather permitting). Would anyone have recommendations of nice places they have been to (or heard about) on the coast? We will be travelling independently and are going with our DS (he is 2yo). Any ideas greatly welcome, cheers

Essaouira - not sure Ive spelt that correctly but its lovely there

prob 2-3 hour drive from marakkesh - taxi affordable but not easy to get car seats etc

or you can get the bus (make sure it's the tourist bus - Supratours, it used to be)

not the place we stayed! it was damp as hell and someone under the window hawked oysters very loudly at 7am every morning

but this was a while ago

get the rough guide and the lonely planet - several of the hotels have pools which ds might appreciate as the beach is lovely but very windy.

and go down to the fish grills for dinner

If you stay in the Medina in Essaouira, it will be damp. That's just the nature of the place. I've stayed in Essaouira twice - I loved the Villa Maroc.

do you remember the name of the place you stayed Mrs Badger? Must avoid it . Vila Maroc looks lovely on the net Boisoir, is it quite child friendly? Feeling a bit overwhelmed by so many choices

no, jusyt did marrakech, essaouira and a run into the mountains

Bonsoir · 07/04/2010 08:27

We went to Villa Maroc with the three children two years ago, so DSS1 was 12, DSS2 was 10 and DD was 3. We had a fabulous time and the children loved it.

Another vote for essaouira, we went to Marrakech for our honeymoon and did the same as Mrs Badger, a trip to the mountains Ouzarzate (sp?) and essaouira.

Gorgeous, I would love to go back.

Would defo vote for Essouria. it's perfect. We stayed here, but that was pre-kids www.jackapartments.com/eng/index.php We got a taxi from Marakech airport to the coast, it was very cheap and took a few hours. Essouria is a wonderful place and I would love to go back!
