Monterey Bay Aquarium CA - anyone been?

On holiday in San Francisco with dc (11, 8) and we were thinking of making a special trip to the Monterey aquarium. However, it's quite expensive and I was wondering whether it's worth the expense and the journey - is it much better than the London Aquarium? Grateful for advice from anyone who's been.

No, but my friend who lives locally is obsessed by it and says it's wonderful. She travels up there regularly from San Diego.

It's pretty fantastic. But definitely expensive.

We enjoyed it. Not been to London Aquarium so can't compare sorry. I liked Monterey itself, worth an hour there just wandering around.

Haven't been to London Aquarium but have been to the Sealife centre in B'mingham and agree with littlemisslozza and that Monteray is good to wander round for an hour too.

Monteray Aquarium is well worth a visit. Have always enjoyed a visit there.

Fifty times better than the London aquarium, definitely worth the trip IMO.

I have been but almost 10 years ago now. It is good, better than London aquarium, though quite a way out of San Fran so not sure if it's worth the trip for that alone. Monterey is a nice town to spend a day in though.

Thanks all for the advice. Does sound worth the trip- we will probably combine it with a day/night in Santa Cruz.

Monteray Bay Aquarium is amazing and worth every penny. Only problem is that it will spoil most other aquariums for you - especially the London one (which is a complete rip-off).

yes, its great. In particular for the sea otters, which are soooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its a nice drive down the coast from San Fran to Monterey Bay too, so i think its worth is also.
