Ikea Birmigham is literally a mile at most of the M40 - cheap food indoor and outdoor play equipment, local petrol station very nearby if you would need to refill.

Tebay Services, just south of Penrith.

It is the only independant motorway services in the UK,and was voted the best. Has a farm shop, lovely shop, cafe, lake with ducks, you can easily spend a couple of hours there if the weather is nice

now, i had heard of that place. if it was just a wee bit further south... we'll only be 2 hours into our journey.... heard it is fab tho'...

geordieminx · 01/04/2010 21:19

It would be a nice place to stop for breakfast though, then another stop at birmingam (3 hours), then another 2-3 into London?

Perfect

brimfull · 01/04/2010 21:23

yes I imagine they do a lovely breakfast

and beautiful view

What we do (Fife to London) is:

leave super-early. Give dd some bread or whatever she'll take in the car.

Stop at Tebay for breakfast. Doesn't matter how early it is in the journey, it's the BEST on the route.

Then stop again at the services on the M6 toll road. They can be busy, but they're pretty good.

squeaver · 01/04/2010 21:27

oh, pretty much what Geordieminx suggested, I see!

AgentProvocateur · 01/04/2010 22:02

I was going to say Tebay too!

ja9 · 02/04/2010 19:44

geordieminx - thanks for that. think that's what we'll do...
