We've been to the Western Algarve several times so going east to Tavira this time. Any recommendations for places to visit - short trips for if the weather is great, long trips for if we have a "grey day" (already thinking Seville) Also, if there are restaurants you'd recommend in Tavira, that would also be great. Thanks.

Went to Tavira on a day trip when we stayed in central algarve. can't remember the name of the restaurant we loved, but if you climb up the pedestrian steps to the ruined castle, there's only one on a courtyard by a large church. Has a lovely patio and great food - our DD made friends with anothr little girl which allowed us to enjoy a leisurely lunch...a rare luxury! Hope you have a lovely time.

Sorry - only just seen this. There are some lovely, reasonably priced restaurants in Tavira. Ther is a river that runs through the town and one side of the river is more pricey than the other. The "quieter" side has a lovely square - where there are several restaurants including a chinese! A short walk from there is a restaurant called Bica - doesn't look much but food is fab and very reasonable. There is another called Vela Doce on the other side of the river up towards the Police Station - no menu, very Portugese - meat or fish and then the bill is scrawled on table cloth by the owner - again very cheap. Both these have been featured the British press at some time.

Tavira is one if not my favourite place in the world - let me know if you need any further info
