boo hoo - saved for ages to fly one leg virgin atlantic premium economy and just received seat allocations and not in the upstairs cabin! feel unreasonably fed up - wanted it to be special but now downstairs fairly near the toilets!! no spare seats as BA on strike and flight is totally full. ah well, I know worse things are happening in life ..... pls tell me it will be worth the extra expense in the cabin! just to make me feel better ...

You pay for the extra legroom, not the cabin. I've flown premium with BA and it was worth every penny for those extra inches!

That's a shame. I've flown Premium Economy with Virgin quite a lot and it is nicer being upstairs. It's quite different from BA's version. It's still quite nice being downstairs and definitely much better than Economy!

Cabin is not bad for Premium Economy. We paid the extra to return (couldn't get outgoing) from Barbados on Virgin and it really did make a difference.

There is a curtain that separates PE from Economy during the flight. It is only pulled back during taxi and take off/landing. As well as the extra room - which you really do appreciate when you see that there are three E seats to your 2 PE seats - you get a drink for take off and extra bits and pieces throughout, of a better quality than in E.

I much preferred PE but not sure if it warrants the extra £400 each one way that we had to pay in 2008.

It is only a bigger seat, more leg room. The food and service is the same as economy.

Now flying upper class is wonderful.

poshtottie · 20/03/2010 17:38

Oh yes did get a drink before take off.

I've upgraded from Barbados to London for £400 to first class from premium economy.

VKschmeekay · 20/03/2010 18:34

I have always wanted to fly First Class

BelleDameSansMerci · 20/03/2010 20:11

Oh I got upgraded to BA First Class once, long, long ago. OMG - a different world! Club Class with BA, though, is also pretty impressive. We were all devastated when we were no longer allowed to fly business class

BelleDameSansMerci · 20/03/2010 20:11

At work - I mean... Heaven forbid that I should pay for a Club Class long haul flight myself - eeek!

thanks for the replies - feeling slightly better now - yes, would love, just once in my life, to turn left on the plane! think I'll have to earmark some pension cash for that..... (if we have any pension left by then!)

thought I would report back on PE flight for posterity! legroom good, even for my 6ft 4 dh and priority boarding and drinks on boarding nice. good choice of films/tv on demand. however not impressed that they ran out of choice of meals by the time they got to us and also ran out of baileys (as after dinner tipple). the sides of the seats did not go up so ds not able to lie flat as he did in economy on the way out (spare seat on both legs) - although the seat did recline more than economy.
I think for a flight under 8 hours I wouldn't bother upgrading again tbh. and do you think I should put in a complaint about the meals?
