we went to the gower and brecon beacons (quite high rainfall figs in latter, but we had heatwave). we loved them both - fab beaches in gower - and we are fussy, with benefit of swansea on the doorstep. brecon had good walks - though was too hot too see some of the waterfalls - you can walk behind one. we hired a boat and went down the canal another day. there's also the big pit a coal mine. this year we are going to pembrokeshire - surfing, cycling round reservoir, towns, beaches, puffins, oakwood theme park. sounds like cornwall without the crowds and better accomodation for the money. gower was a bit like that

oh yes that reminds me - we went on a railway trip - steam train up some mountains whilst we stayed at brecon which was a nice day. we were impressed with how few people there were

I haven't been to that area but we stayed at the bottom of the Snowdonia National Park one summer. It rained a hell of a lot but there are fabulous beaches round there (the area you are thinking of as we travelled round a bit).

Your kids would probably like electric mountain at Snowdonia, Snowdonia itself and the trains there. There is a zoo, castles and lots of walks and the like.

We had so much rain and were camping with very young children so we didn't enjoy our holiday up there as much as you could with older children/less rain.
