Brazil with 5 month old?

I have found a great holiday to Brazil in May but am unsure about travel vaccinations for my baby - has anyone else with a baby travelled to Brazil?

Where in Brazil are you going? I live there (Sao Paulo) and there are different requirements for different areas... (some place have yellow fever, for instance)

hello, I think Rio for a week and then Ilha Grande.

Just checked out the gov website and no yellow fever vaccine is needed for the State of Rio de Janeiro.

Neither location seems to be having Dengue problems either at the moment; these are the two biggies, really, so do take lots of mosquito repellant (better safe than sorry!).

Also, if you're taking/using a pack n'play or something similar, its worth getting one of those mosquito nets that cover it (from my experience the best ones are the ones with elastic around the bottom, if you can't get one where you are you can probably sew one/get one made from some netting and elastic).

Sounds like a great trip! I love Rio, its so pretty, and though I haven't been to Ilha Grande I have been to other places in Angra and its lovely.

I went to Brazil this January with my DS (2.9) and DD (11 months at the time). We went to Rio- there are no vaccination requirements. We had an amazing time, we also travelled in Argentina and Uruguay!

Wow! Good coincidence, well sorta - DP and I are planning to go on hols to Brazil while I'm still on mat leave. It's a bit forward planning at the moment cos I'm still only 15 weeks pregnant so who knows how it will all work out - but I was amused to see the thread description, cos it will probably be when our baby is about 5 months too!
