There's so many flats and houses for rent online and I dont have a clue on which town is nice to stay in and which is Costa del 'Brit'. Anyone know this area and can advise me on which is a typically spanish town that we'll enjoy? We'd like an apartment rental walking distance of the beach and a nice little town where we can sip Rioja and eat tapas rather than cups of tea and all day English breakfasts!
Help please!

It's not within walking distance of the beach but it is well worth a look. villajalon.com

We wanted the same thing. Went fior a small resort called Moraira (may be wrong spelling) with Villa plus. Thought a hotel might be too restricting with little ones. Go in a month but looks good and very spanish

Been to Calpe which was ok for a villa based holiday - we never even bothered with the beach! Moraira is lovely and small and not too british. Great places to eat out!

Moraira is amasing, perfect with kids. We always book with villaservers.

Calpe and Moraira are nice.
We went last year as a party of 16 and stayed in "luxury villa" (ahem) through Villas and Pools. My advice would be not to use that particular website but you're already sorted so should be fine. Calpe rock is a great hike and there are some nice ice cream parlours nearby but also some real british caffs doing the all day brekkie....

Head for Javea, fantastic sea side resort an hour north of alicante. It is beautiful, we go there at least once a year and our babies are 1.5 and 2.5. beautiful restaurants and bars overlooking the beach and promenade (without a road in front) very child friendly even the upmarket restaurants are very baby/child friendly.
