Nice pubs in E.Yorks

We live in Hull and want to expand the range of pubs we frequent

We seem to end up at lots of bland chain pubs which is a bit blah. Can anyone recommend any pubs that do decent food with a bit of character in the region.

Thanks!

Green Dragon in Welton. Just of the "new" (about 3 years ago) junction on the A63 as you leave the Humber Bridge behind you.

Oh that was quick, thank you!

We go to The Sandpiper in North Ferriby a lot but it feels very bland, its the same brewery as the Green Dragon (as far as I can see!) is the Green Dragon more traditionally pubby?

Oh I sound so fussy!

The Pipe & Glass at South Dalton and The Wolds Inn at Huggate were our two favourites.

Hope and Anchor in Eastoft is absolutely divine - ive just come back from there tonight! absolutely fabulous home cooked food at really good prices. ive just had home cooked chilli, a glass of red wine and a brandy snap basket - the steak pie there is the best ive ever tasted and the lasagne is to die for - you can really tell its all home made. lovely!

second Pipe and Glass (think it has a Michelin star now as well)

Really?! I know it has a fantastic garden with great views which is what made us like it so much.

Pipe and glass is where my DH bakes the bread for...(he is a brill baker)

it does indeed have a michelin star - the only one in this region.

The Station in Patrington is lovely. Home cooked food.

I though the Green Dragon was fairly tradinally pubby, but a bit modernised, bt not in a bland/chain pub way. I took my team a work there for Christmas lunch when I worked in Willerby and the protions were huge. I had a fishfinger sanger because I was full of cold and not up to a big meal.

Oh I do miss East Yorks.

Thanks for the recommendations, lots to go on there!

We have looked at the Pipe and Glass before actually so that is on our list of pubs to try but it seems quite expensive (as it should be with a Mitchelin star) so will save for a special occasion.

I wonder if it's been taken over recently, cos I remember it being a "pubby" pub a few years back.
