So Lanzarote or Fuerteventura - which is nicest?

Am struggling to decide which of these to go to. Want to book for the whit holiday so end of May and assumed we would get nice weather in the Canaries? We went to Menorca same time a couple of years ago and it was cold and it rained every day except the last one when the sun came out and it was lovely when we were coming home.

Want something with nice beaches, not too commercialised? Am going around in circles looking at websites and just giving myself a headache!

Never been to Lanzarote, but loved Fuerteventura, went to Caleta de Fuste (Costa Caleta).

We have been to Lanzarote twice and have booked to go back again this year. We really like it. We went for the day to Fuerteventura the beaches there do seem to look very nice ,where as on Lanzarote the sand is more volcanic (black), but where we stay they have a private lagoon wit a normal sand beach . Also good childrens activities . We stay in Costa Teguise, short transfer from the airport as well.

Mum just got back from Lanzarote and said it was great, we are going in a few weeks.

Lanzarote. Playa Blanca is lovely. Very flat for pushchairs and quite quiet. There are a couple of white sand beaches. It is also sheltered so tends to get high temps. Have been to Fuerte once, but it was very windy and not as much to see out and about

We went to Fuertuventura many years ago (pre kids) stayed in Caleta de Fuste (big hotel on beach - belive it is a lot bigger resort now!) and it was lovely and quiet. Went to Lanzarote on a long day trip and thought it was nicer there. Would second the windyness of Fuerturventura as well - would be a pain with kids and the sand!

Love Playa Blanca Lanzarote - did not like Fuerteventura went to Corraleja for a day trip on the ferry.

Hmm not that many votes for Fuerteventura then. I have found a really good place to stay there as well - oh things are never straightforward are they.

I liked both. There's possibly more to do in Lanzarote, but the beaches in Fuerteventura are much nicer and the dunes are fabulous. I took 1yo to Fuerte and had no bother with the winds...

I'd just pick the cheapest

more to do in Lanzarote. youve got the national park tours and so on....but the most fabulous beach is on Fuerteventura. we did a day trip from lanzarote. i really enjoyed that holiday, great weatherm but windy, also as volcanic islands they tend to be quite barren - no greenery but i think id go back

we also stayed in costa teguise. was nice. massive cockroaches though, be warned!

Where've you you found Polgara?
We've been to Fuerteventura. Caleta de Fuste has the brilliant Barcelo complex which is on the beach and has everything you need. We also drove inland to historic villages and down to the far south west of the island to miles and miles of dunes and beaches (where the Germans go.)I think you'd have a lovely time there.

Take a lok at the lanzarote forum on trip advisor. I read something about some of the beaches being closed due to bad weather they've had and rocks etc being washed onto beach. I had looked at a thomson/first choice holiday village hotel. Think it was near playa dorada.

I hated lanzarote. We went to costa teguise in august a few years ago. It was cloudy until lunch everyday and the wind was feirce.
