I didn't realise what we want is so hard to find - any suggestions v welcome.

We want a sun holiday in June with 2 rooms so kids separate from us, some childcare for 15mth & 3.5 yr olds, activities on tap would be nice (eg tennis, sailing), travel not too hideous duration / hassle wise (e.g. 2 flights).

have been trying mark warner, sani, club med. either too expensive, childcare for both not avail or reviews suggest not great for kids not speaking french (club med) or not have rooms.

had no idea this would be so hard. think we might just stay home!

thx

Sorry to hear you are having no luck. We are in exactly in the same boat.

A lot of people are going to realise this quite soon. The weakness of the Pound Sterling will make all foreign holidays very very expensive this year. Their mortgage rate will soon rising as well.

Sorry to make this a bit of a political post but only when it really hits people in their pocket will they realise what a truely dreadful state the country is in.

You can easily find family holidays for a fraction of that price but if you want everything included then you have to pay for it!

We are going away in August (the most expensive month of summer) to Kos and Turkey and it is costing us less than £1,400 for two adults and 2 children for nearly 3 weeks. We are renting an apartment and we don't need childcare or entertainment. It is cheap to eat out over there so we wont spend huge amounts on food either.

I think you are right though, the kind of holiday you are after doesn't come cheap.

you do want alot.

Maveta · 04/03/2010 11:54

When I read the title I thought of course you should be able to find something.. I was thinking cheap flights and self catering accomodation.. if you want all that as a package I am not surprised it is coming out dear.

You could fly out to good ol' Majorca for probably about 600 quid, find an apartment with a pool, there is a company called cosy toes or something like that which offers nanny services. And source your own activities! Hey presto! cheaper holiday. Having activities available 'on tap' to use as and when you feel like it (ditto childcare) is going to be expensive!

Club Med sometimes have good deals out of schools hols - had a quick look and found a week in Portugal all inclusive (inter-connecting rooms) and flights for £2650. Here's the link www.clubmed.co.uk/cm/moreProposals.do

We have found the holiday accommodation alot more comfortable than Mark Warner - some of their holidays are very basic! There are not so many british families holidaying though - although that is a plus for us as we can be anti-social on holiday.

Well if you want expensive things you will have to pay for it. If you want to fly away to the sun, with childcare, nice hotels, sailing activities, then yes, it is going to cost a lot of money. If you want to pay less, you will have to do less!

Just Sardinia

They have some resorts with kids clubs and offer their own part time childcare service.

This is where we're going. Family rooms have 2 bedrooms and plenty of child minding services too. All inclusive in June for 1 week with flights for 4 from Gatwick works out as under £2200 with On the beach, travel republic had good prices too.

Don't know how to do a proper link? Only built last year so very new (the hotel, not me!)

Can't wait!!

Travel Republic cheaper than on the beach £1995 for the week

Which I'd booked with them now!

that should be easy outside of school holiday time,

Some suggestions:
Self-catering with Simply Travel at one of their two locations with Creche facilities - Mousses on Lefkas, or Crete.

MW generally offer free child places outside of school holiday time, and so do Neilson and Sunsail.

Hulababy · 08/03/2010 21:12

Having adjoining rooms will make the holiday a fair bit dearer, rather than having just one room.

Why not look at a nice villa? Many have the option of babysitting as a payable extra. Yu just have to find your own entertainment - although if you get one with a pool, that is at least half of it sorted for you.

foreverastudent · 08/03/2010 21:28

When you say '2 rooms' do you mean a 2 bed apartment or a 1 bed apartment with 1 bedroom and 1 bed/livingroom. If it's a 2 bed apt you're after you will be paying for underoccupancy.
Is a 1 bed apt so bad?

What kind of childcare are you after? If it's a couple of hours in an on-site creche it shouldn't cost too much. Night-time nannies are a different matter...

Have you been away on a family holiday before? Your expectations sound a little naive. Tennis and sailing dont sound v toddler friendly!

saw this thread last night and meant to reply then but DH pinched computer.

Have you looked at Malta? we were going to go in the Easter holidays but are now getting rabbits instead! we found a week holiday all inclusive, up the end of the island with a sandy beach for £1500, in a 2 bed apartment.

We have just been to Tenerife on a Promotional Week.

We stayed in a 5* apartment,2 seperate bedrooms,Bed settees in lounge.TV,DVD player,Personal Balcony with Tables and chairs on it,fully fitted kitchen with Fridge freezer.maid Service.Hotel had entertainment, about 4 swimming pools, wwith shaded Toddler pool.Kids Clubs,Sports facillities,Restaurant, supermarket on site and Courtesy Bus.......
All for £49 for a family of five.

Downside is we had to give up a morning for the sales talk, but Children were all taken care of in Creche, and we were given food and drink.

Worth it in my opinion.

Google Hollywood Mirage Tenerife for details if interested.
