How much time should I allocate for the Natural History Museum with my 4yo DS?

Just that really, hoping to fit it in with some other stuff, Dinosaurs Unleased in the morning, lunch at the Rainforest Cafe, then onto the Natual History Museum, we'll probably have 2/3 hours, will this be enough time or would we be best saving it for another day when we could spend a whole day?

Think you have a very ambitious day planned - especially for a 4 year old.

I'd leave the Natural History Museum for another day - ime, you need about half a day there.......to wade through crowds, look at exhibits, have a snack/drink, and negotiate the gift shop.

too many things. is dinosaurs unleashed any good? rather expensive i thought and one gets a few moving dinos in nhm.

Have just started another thread on that actually Earlybird! I thought perhaps it might be manageable as he's still a bit young for most of the stuff there?

2-3 hours should be doable if it's during the week, shouldn't be too busy. Tbh my dd has been loads of times but only really enjoys the dinosaur bits, she can take or leave the rest. Although the earthquake shop thingy is very good.

BattyKoda · 21/02/2010 15:57

fishie - I don't think it is, but he is absolutely dinsosaur mad!! It will be worth the money for him.

blackletterday - I think this will be the case for my DS, I should imagine if it's not dinosaurs or volcanos he won't be interested in the slightest!

Has it got alot of dinosaur stuff there? Do you think it would be better to skip Dinosaurs Unleashed and just go to the NHM? Also having lunch at the rainforset cafe, which will be exciting for him too.

i took dd to the natural history museum in the summer i don't think we even lasted an hour it was a complete stampede and we just got pissed off

Ivykaty44 · 21/02/2010 16:07

look it is free to get in - why not pop your head in the door and peep - then come back another day to look a little more

I would say just an hour or two, even on another day and then go and get something to eat somewhere else.

to much can be off putting

BattyKoda · 21/02/2010 16:08

We're going on a Friday during term time so hopefully it won't be too busy?

not busy in half term, I amsorry but i don't think so... they do sleep overs at half term

BlackLetterDay · 21/02/2010 16:10

Yes there is a dinosaur exhibit with lots of models and an animatronic dinosaur at the end, some fossils and obviously the t-rex in the main hall. Can't remember if there is anything else. If you wanted to spend the whole day there you could combine it with a trip to the science museum which is next door.

BariatricObama · 21/02/2010 16:11

we went to the v&a for lunch afterwards. quite pricey but it was a really hot day and dd loved splashing about in the pools.

BlackLetterDay · 21/02/2010 16:12

Shouldn't be too busy, we went on a sunday once and it was a nightmare.
