We want to go away for 3 weeks in August (from about the 8th) and I need some help. We are 2 adults and 2 girls age 7 and 8.

I was thinking Thailand but is it too wet? Florida and the Caribbean are probably out due to hurricane season, Turkey is too hot and we want to avoid the Eurozone if posible as it is just so pricey at the moment.

Where would you go?
Answers on a psotcard please....

We are going to Turkey for 3 weeks in August, yes it will be hot but we are pretty used to it and we love it there.

Croatia? Not in euro zone, will be hot though, but lovely. Maybe a bit in Dubrovnik /Split and then out to one of the islands, like Brac?

What about Atlantic Canada? We went to Nova Scotia and PEI last summer. I think most people thought we were crazy, but its only a shortish flight, cheapish dollar and beautiful isolated beaches. Weather was about 25 degrees, no language barriers and fantastic people.

Oh yes.. a brillant shopping in Halifax for the girls.

Malawi and Zambia in Africa.
Lake Malawi is fresh water and 365 miles long with beautiful tropical beaches great for kids over 1000 different fish, there is kids horse riding, boat trips, canoeing and safaris!!! and the distances between places are not far.Luxury En suite safari tents are about £50 per person adult full board in a game park in Malawi. In August it is in the mid 20's There's a place in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia where they have a family tree house where elephants come close to in the evening, (Jackal berry tree house) There is a company that run trip for families in Malawi

Has anyone been to Thailand in August? Is it very wet?

What about Florida and the Caribbean? Would I be risking getting caught in hurricanes?

I like the sound of Croatia but DH wants palm trees and white sandy beaches.

So you are definitely seeking a tropical location then.

Sri Lanka?

Beaches are golden sand not white sand though... I quite fancied going here:

When I was looking (either with First Choice or Mercury Direct, can't remember which), kids stayed free. It is not too far from the airport and close to the culture (Kandy, elephant sanctuary etc).

The whitest sand beach and the most idyllic place I've ever been was Zanzibar. Went in November though pre kids, so don't know what its like in August with them.

Bahamas were pretty stunning too.
