Honeymoon in Marrakech

DP and I are getting married in July so looking to book a honeymoon very shortly. We only want to go away for 4/5 days max as have ds and don't want to leave him for too long.

Marrakech is somewhere we have always wanted to go and seems ideal but have a few questions:-

  • what is weather like in July? I am a fair skinned blonde - will I fry?

  • where is best to stay? Centre of Marrakech or on outskirts?

  • what is it like for value for money? Don't want to spend a fortune but will have a budget of around £1500.

Thank you!

you will fry. it is a bad idea to go in the summer. and i say that as a half moroccan!

i went on honeymoon too. but we went in november. we did casablanca for 3 days so dh could meet all my family there. then we took the marrakech express and stayed there for 4 days. we stayed in jardins de la koutoubia see here which is just gorgeous!

Don't know about weather in July, we went in October. I think it is their summer though so Very hot.

If you go definately stay inside the Medina. I was pregnant so we went for the 'safety' of a multi-national hotel. Big mistake. Walked miles into and out of the medina every day! Pool was freezing at hotel which was another reason for choosing a big hotel, even kids didn't go in it .

November? I quite like the idea of a delayed honeymoon. Think I will float that idea past dp.

That hotel looks amazing! Thanks for the advice ruddynorah x

oh, and that hotel is ideal as it has a pool which is quite rare. it's central. lots of newly built 4/5 star hotels have sprung up but far out of town. la koutoubia is near the souk, but it's tucked away so not bustly or noisy. plus it's near the road (can't think of name) with all the big restaurants on it.

map here

see it is fab!

we got married end august, went to london straight after for 'normal' honeymoon. then did morocco in november.

I also went with my wife on a honeymoon last year to Marrakech and it is really recommendable to stay in a riad to experience Marrakech to the fullest instead of a standard hotel. Furthermore I can advice anyone to take an excursion when your planning a trip to Marrakech.

I booked with myresidencemarrakech.com/ and they have a nice selection of excursions and accomodation such as riads in the medina of Marrakech.
