Any travel agents out there to explain crazy prices

DH and I are attempting to book flights to the states later this year for us and DC. DH, myself and 2 x DC will be flying from Middle East via UK and other two DC will be flying from UK to Florida.
DH and I have an allowance from his company for us but have to pay for the children. DC 3 and 4 are 3 and 1 so we are looking at the child price for them (business class) On the airlines website it works out at around 2,300 (sorry no pound sign on this computer) Fine, a lot of money but we'd pay that. However, travel agents (who we have to book through due to husbands contract) are saying that the price for 1 child and infant on lap is 4,900! How can that be and why isn't it what is advertised on website?

Am I going completely mad?

Not quite understanding what is going on, but .... The infant on lap would be the cost with an adult in Bus Class with infant (tax is higher in Bus class for infants and children). Have you tried costing it all (every passenger in group) and then deducting the adults to get to the extra cost? Is this what you have done?

sorry if a bit confusing. Two DC in UK so we have to pay for them ourselves from LGW to MCO.
Confusing bit is child and infant prices. Airlines website says one price (2,300) but travel agents are insisting it is 4,900 which sounds crazy money just for a childs seat and infant on lap. We don't want to buy the plane

Sounds like they can't book the infant without paying for the seat. ie booking 1 x adult (with infant on lap) and and one child would be different to going to book 1 child and 1 infant on a separate booking, so charging for 2 seats by the sound of it for the child and infant. I really have no idea,

thanks isnowsoonenough. We gave up trying to fathom it out and have now booked with Virgin instead.
