Is this a crazy idea..3 under 5 year olds, all of us sharing a European Youth Hostel room for 5 days?

Please either reassure me or knock some sense into my head!

We are thinking of taking our kids to Munich. Our twins will then be 4.8 and our youngest will be 16 months. We are doing it on a budget so plan to stay at an official youth hostel which welcome families and isn't so big on drunken backpackers. They have offered us a room with two bunkbeds and a travel cot for 4 nights. They also provide cheap half board, so we would get a good buffet breakfast and a clean cheap evening meal with highchair etc.

Dh and I are obsessed with sleep - what if all three keep eachother awake at night? And DD3 is at the stage just wanting to head for nearest flight of steps, attempt to walk up it, nearly fall over, be removed and repeat ad nauseum. Will that just be frustrating on holiday when we just want to sit quietly and have a bier/coffee for five minutes? We travelled to Munich pre-kids and had a whale of a time, I wonder if the kids are just too young...

We flew to New Zealand for a year when our twins were 13 months so we have done it - but still feel a little traumatised by the flights!

What do you do in the evenings when all sharing a room without baby listening facilities? All go to bed at 8pm or take it in turns to go out of the room?

I'd love to do it. I think older kids would benefit massively. But part of me wonders if it would just be immensely stressful and we'd come back tireder than when we went..

Any tips/experiences very much welcomed.

hi,
we went to berlin for a week with ds when he was 6 months and stayed in a hotel room and it was awful! even though we co slept at home and he was a good sleeper it was awful there. dp had to walk him out in the stroller about 1am to try and get him to go to sleep and we were both exhausted by the time we got home.

we then went to amsterdam when ds was 17 months but got a house, this was much better as i could put him in the travel cot in the bedroom and then go downstairs, eat/watch tv and even go out and leave him with grannie! could you not get a very cheap apartment?

I doubt very much you will get to sit and have beers the way you used to but it will be good in a different way.

When I go away with my kids all routines are thrown out of the window and we play it by ear so we take them out and about and try and break up boring grown up stuff with stuff they will enjoy.

With regards to sleep, earplugs are marvellous Also most YHA have lounge areas so once the kids were asleep you could spend time down there rather than in the room if you took baby monitors with you.
