Please help me find a holiday, preferably in the IOW

Need to book a holiday for in about 1 months time (13th Aug). Dh wants to go to the IOW, wheras I am not fussed.
What I do want is somewhere childfriendly, possibly a cottage or a lodge, that kind of thing. Dh and the kids want a caravan but I'd rather not.
Any suggestions gratefully received

DS spends all day there TWICE he loves it

He is 10

Take plenty of suncream cos lots of open space as well as shade

If you go for water slide go early or late

If you don't like guns avoid pirate ship and cowboy town

DS dressed up in his Captain Hook costume and played for hours on the pirate ship

Nursery land is sweet. if going in maze can have one on the lookout to help guide out.

We went to the IOW for the first time last month for a long weekend and we all absolutely loved it

We are desperate to go back!

We stayed in Ventnor which we liked, nice mixture of beach and town as well. Ate way too many cream teas as well

soapy where did you go?

Orinocco - my DCs (7&5) loved Blackgang Chine. At open day at school we got to see their diaries and both of them had written about BGC and how much fun they had there!

However, be prepared to challenge your anti-gun approach (if you have one) as the cap guns seem to sell like hot cakes in the cowboy bit of the park!

I just wish it wan't disappearing into the sea

Since I was a child

We stayed \link{http://www.thewellingtonhotel.net/here} which was lovely but not what Blossomhill is looking for I think.

There was an estate agent in the town who did holiday letting, Hose, Rhodes and Dixon IIRC - may be worth phoning them and getting them to send their letting brochure through!

How child friendly was wellington?

It was fabulous. We had a family room on the decked level - which you can see on the photo on the website - room furthest away from the tables.

Huge room with two roller beds in an alcove area with patio doors out onto the deck. There is baby listening if you want for the evening, although we paid £20 for the lovely chambermaid to babysit for us for the evening. Hotel couldn;t do enough to make it work for us.

Couple we were with had 6mo twins with them and reception kept their baby monitor and came and fished them out of the restaurant the minute there was a murmur!

On the other evening we were there we took the children to dinner with us and had a lovely time - not stuffy at all, particularly if its warm enought to eat outside.

A short stroll down through the hotel grounds to the beach - 400-500 yards or so!

Parking is a nightmare though - we gave up trying to bag a space outside the hotel and used the public carpark at the end of the road (200yards away).

what about here with late availability

RTKangaMummy · 11/07/2005 23:48

Soapbox that sounded so brill 'til I read about parking so glad you warned me, Thanks.

Parking is one of "my things" and so that would drive me up the wall

Blossomhill · 12/07/2005 13:32

Thanks again. Rang Bonchurch and only have availability end of August so we may go for that!
