Right, can anyone help -if I have a return ferry crossing booked, but do not do the outward part, is my return journey still valid?? We are off to Brittany for half-term, due to go from Dover-Calais with seafrance tomorrow morning. Because of snow in dover and in france we are now thinking we will get overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen tonight with Brittany Ferries and cut out a big chunk of the drive to Brittany. But we would still want to return on our original booking from calais to dover. Have tried ringing Seafrance for the answer - but 'due to the adverse weather conditions, their call centre is closed'!??! How helpful. Can anyone here help? have looked at T&Cs but nothing answers my question directly I dont think. (perhaps that is my answe - if it doesnt say I have to do the outward journey in order to the the return journey then maybe its OK, but it does say something about if you miss your ferry crossing you would need to pay a surcharge, implying that is if you want to get a later ferry, but i suppose they could say that that was in general??). waffling now!

I think the last bit about the surcharge is correct for taking a later than planned ferry, asy if you're late getting to port.
You don't have to use the return bit of a return ticket so one would assume you don't have to use the outward bit. You have paid for the ticket and they'll make extra money from letting others go instead of you once they realise you're not going. Could you call another ferry comp and just ask them. I'm sure it would be the same rules.

Thank you luciemule - thats exactly what I did, I called Brittany Ferries and they said no there would be no surcharge - so that is what I am going to assume (and shall write cross letter of complaint re their call centre being closed and their T&Cs not clear if they do try and impose a charge!)
