Can I take a Bugaboo Cameleon with carrycot on a plane?

Hi

I know this is a stupid question, but we're going away for a long weekend and wondering whether we can take a bugaboo cameleon with a carrycot on a plane - assume we would check it in but do they let you? Does it count as two pieces of luggage and do you therefore have to pay for excess baggae?

The other alternative is to take a maclaren and a travel cot with us.

Thanks in advance!

I took mine, but checked it in the Travel Bag and took dd on plane with Baby Bjorn.

The Bugaboo travel bag is fantastic as you can put other bits in it as well. The time I didn't use it is the time the wheels got damaged.

Hi,
do you have the car seat that goes on the Bugaboo base? It's much easier to use that in the airport because they will take the base at the door of the plane (in my experience) and you can fit the car seat up in the overhead bins. This way you can also leave your baby in the car seat while you get settled, which is really helpful.
Be sure to get a luggage tag for the Bugaboo base when checking your bags: if they can't fit it in a closet on the plane then they will gate-check it and you'll pick it up at the luggage carousel.

Also, I didn't spend any money on the bugaboo travel bag- I bought a very large duffel bag on the high street for £25 and used that. You can fit tonnes more stuff in there without being charged for extra baggage!

Good luck!

Hi, thanks for responses. Yes I do have a compatible car seat - that would be useful if they let me take that to the gate and take the carseat onto the plan with us. But I wondered whether airlines will let you check in the bugaboo carrycot (for her to sleep in abroad)? I assume it will not fit in the bugaboo carrybag - from the looks of it! We have bought a travel cot and intend to buy a maclaren at some point so we may just take those wth us instead - until she is in the "grown up" bugaboo - ie without the carrycot.

could you use the wheels and the car seat at the airport and pack the carrycot in your suitcase? they fold quite flat don't they and then you could pack around it iykwim? it would probably be better on holidays if your dd was sleeping in what she was used to.
