Where to go for an all inclusive beach holiday with two young boys?

We usually do self-catering villas but this year I don't want to cook or clean at all for two weeks so we're going down the hotel route.
But we don't know where to go.
Can any of you suggest a resort/hotel which is good for children (pools, kids' club etc), on or very near the beach, which has decent pools and is close to a town we could explore.
Our budget is about £3,000. So far I've found what looked like ideal places in Crete and Turkey but then I looked at Tripadvisor and the reviews were diabolical.
We've pretty much ruled out Egypt as we think it will be too hot for the boys (5&7) and everyone we know who's been has had food poisoning.
We don't want to spend £3,000 and have a crap time.

Vila Vita Parc Portugal and Sheraton Algarve Portugal are great. You should get change from £3k

CG - Gosh, that's cheap for Vila Vita Parc -are you booking it via some bargainous site? I would love to know since I'm getting quotes for 11K - 12K for a fortnight in August for a family of 4 on BB.

MBM - Are you talking about the summer hols i.e Aug?

sounds like my own thoughts....anyone got any ideas for a thired of the price (sorry money is a very rare commodity in our house

MattBellamysMuse · 11/02/2010 18:33

Yes, late July/August.
Thanks for the suggestion choogirl, I'll have a look. Although we're thinking this might be the year to break out of the comfort zone of Spain/Portugal/Italy/France. Maybe go further afield.

Just got a quote from Thomson for Vila Vita Park. £9,535.
Perhaps not then.

I didn't book a package, called Vila Vita direct and negotiated myself. There are plenty of flights to Faro so flights not a problem.

I went to Carlisle Bay Antigua for a week - business class - for less than Thomson are quoting for Vila Vita

I've just booked! We've got two week all inclusive in the Dominican Republic for £3,085. Not bad at all and great reviews on Tripadvisor.

Great. Can I carry on this thread and ask if anyone knows of any other nice hotel/resorts in Majorca or Portugal?

greedygreedyguzzler · 16/02/2010 14:49

Mattbella - which hotel? if you dont mind me asking? i am looking for EXACTLY the same sort iof thing and keep coming up with places in turkey or crete which look great until i look at the reviews on trip advisor.

fimac1 · 16/02/2010 19:53

Same! would like the details if only to see who you booked with

Thanks

We booked the Grand Oasis Marien through Thomas Cook, who were the cheapest we found.
There are good and bad reviews on Tripadvisor but overall I was happy enough with the comments to book. I found other hotels in Turkey and the Greek Islands which looked great until I read some scathing reviews.
It seems DR is actually much better value for money than Europe/Turkey. And the all inclusive package looks very generous in comparison too (eg, you can eat at all five restaurants any time, not just the buffet etc).

I did find one in Kos that looked great, which we were about to book before we decided on DR. I can post a link if you want. The beaches or course let it down and it was about £3,600. The beaches in DR look a million times better.
