Recommednation please for UK weekend break venues

For me and dh to have a nice romantic weekend.
Am happy to spend £100 per night
Would like a health club/spa
Within 2 hours drive of cardiff

anyone know what Solihull is like? Hotel is nice, and reasonable is it a nice place for shopping and wandering? Im thinking of somewhere like Chester or Cheltenham, that sort of thing

God no - don't go to Solihull.

Cheltenham - yes.
Chester - yes but the city centreisn't as nice as it used to be.
London - always good.
Bath - no idea how far from Cardiff it is but tis lovely.

What about the Cotswolds - v easily reached from Cardiff.

Cotswolds is not far for us, about an hour maybe so thats a good choice.
Although how would we be fixed for a wander round shops on saturday and a movie saturday night? I dont really want to walk round pottery shops and a branch of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill {wink]

Well it's different from staying in a pretty city/large town but there is www.cotswoldwaterparkhotel.co.uk/

It has a spa and is about 5 mins drive from Cirencester which is a good sized town full of cafes, shops - nice to wander round. Bibury which is v pretty is nearby. It's just off the A419 and so you can be at the Swindon Greenbridge cinema in 10-15mins.

Swankier places: Calcot Manor near Tetbury,
Whately Manor (Michelin Stars and wait for it - it's own little cinema) between Tetbury and Malmesbury. Both 25 mins drive from cinemas.

Cheltenham is v nice.

Cheltenham has Cowley Manor which is lovely and great spa but not £100 a night.
