Hi There
Thinking of going to Florence with DH for my 40th in June. Has anyone flown and transferred from Pisa - is it a pain? Or can you fly nearer? We don't have tons of money to splash out so can't afford a really expensive flight. Also if anyone knows any good hotels etc.

Really easy to get off plane in Pisa and walk through the (small) airport on to the station platform for Florence - it's just at the end of the airport arrivals hall. There are only a few platforms and it was really clear where to go. We just trundled our cases along and bingo ! Trains are quite frequent. Taxi from Florence station to hotel or you could walk although it's a bit hectic round the station area. We stayed at the Hotel Pitti Palace about 5 years ago - it was ideal for us, not posh but nice enough and literally at the end of the Ponte Vecchio. We had a wonderful time. Fave places are the Uffizi ( book tickets in advance) San Lorenzo church and library - so atmospheric and just wandering around the streets - you can see where Galileo lived forgodssake! Walk up the steps to the Piazzale Michaelangelo to see the classic view over the duomo. We got there at 11.00 and as we leaned against the wall to take in the sight all the bells began to ring. (Cue tears from me! Something gorgeous makes me cry every time we go to Italy)Cafes are expensive in the big squares but you can find inexpensive food in side streets.

Thanks for that. It sounds wonderful. I have always wanted to go but just wondered about the transfer. Sounds like you had a marvellous time X
