La Rochelle

Has anybody stayed in a mobile home on a campsite in the La Rochelle area? We want to fly but not drive so we're looking for somewhere with good public transport links so that we can sightsee easily.

The Ile de Re looks lovely, but the bus service looks patchy. Could we entertain ourselves and our 5 year old and one year old for a week? We wouldn't want to go to the beach everyday but having it as close as possible would be great.

If we go too far north or south from La Rochelle will we be stuck for things to do?

Any recommendations for good campsites?

thanks

You could get a taxi to wherever you were planning to stay - but obv you would then be stuck there if local public transport wasn't up to much. Think there was a thread recently about someone planning to go to Ile de Re and get a taxi from La Rochelle. iirc it wasn't going to be expensive. Would cycling be an option to get out and about while you are there?

We have stayed at Les Charmettes with Siblu, and taken trips to La Rochelle, but they have another site here that is closer to La Rochelle and looks nice.

the sites around royan/la palmyre area are generally nice (but also popular!) the zoo at la palmyre is very good, not sure about public transport though
