Where to stay in Ibiza if we want character and to avoid the crowds?

I've heard that some parts of Ibiza are lovely - the north in particular. We're (DH, myself and 11 month old DD) looking to go in April, self catering, and within walking distance of coast and restaurants, but away from the noise and the masses. Any suggestions?

It was over 10 years ago but I remember we stayed in Cala Gracio, walking distance from the coast but also not too far from San Antonio if you wanted to walk there during the day but far away enough to avoid all the noise and masses..was a long time ago though but it was the best holiday i ever had x
