Newquay or Falmouth for our holiday?

I'm about to book our holiday and I'm looking at Newquay & Falmouth. The Newquay one is nearer to shops etc but I've heard that Newquay is full of drunk surfers in the evenings - is it really that bad?

Falmouth looks prettier but what are beaches like?

ANy advice to help me make up my mind?

I'm off to do the ironing - back in an hour!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Newquay! But I love it because it is FULL of drunk surfers

It's not somewhere that I would plan to go for a family holiday.

No beaches really in Falmouth. The south coast is very pretty but if you want a beach holiday then go to the north coast.

I wouldn't stay in Newquay itself, but there are tons of places just along the coast which are quieter and have fantastic beaches. We went to Mawgan Porth last summer and loved it.

I'm back - OK maybe Newquay's not for us. I was hoping you'd say it's just lively at night (when we'll all be tucked up in bed - well at least the dcs) but OK for families during the day.

The site I'm looking at says "sandy beach" for Swanpool near Falmouth - does anyone know what its like for kids?

Having gone through the whole brochure I'm not looking forward to having to start again!

Would not recommend Newquay itself for a family holiday as can be very noisey and popular with young singles and drinking.

Falmouth is a better option for families IMO,
Swanpool is good and my DS's love the marine mmuseum and eden both v. close to Falmouth.

Hi definitely Falmouth. Went last year with 2 dd. One 4 and one 2 years. Some lovely lovely beaches just a tiny car ride from falmouth. Best one can't remeber name I will ask dh tonight. Has loos cAfe fab ice cream. Rock pools lovely sand and parking. Also is on the flight path for some RAF activity. Much more exciting than it sounds!! Also don't know age of your children but weather last year was pants so can recommend a number of indoor activities in area. Raze the roof' indoor play, gets busy go early but worth a visit. In town there is a lovely pottery cafe, very child friendly and not toooo expensive. (on road behind cinema). And talking of cinema, that's worth a visit if a rainy weekend as they do a kids club. Nice small cinema. Have lots more ideas if you want them. I don't work for falmouth tourist board but just had a good if wet holiday last summer! Will come back with name of great beach!!
