Could anyone recommend somewhere to stay for a couple of nights in the Donegal area with our 2 year old? I've never been to Ireland so don't know where to start. We will be renting a car at the airport so have some flexibility but I don't want to do too much driving.

Is there enough of interest in that area - maybe beaches, scenic countryside etc or should we be thinking of driving over to see the Giants Causway?

Thanks

Hi Sebbys Mum

I have been to Donegal it is absolutely stunning. I can't recommend anywehre specific to stay, but what I would say is - all the roads are really crap and places that look like they will take 15 minutes to get to take more like an hour. So bear it in mind.

We stayed in Mallin Mor near Glencolumcillie (spellings prob wrong), these are quite a way up in the North West. Around that are there is the Silver Strand beach - quite stunning with a waterfall dropping into the sea, a beach called Magheara which was divine but just next to a revolting little town called Ardara (the lady in the sweet shop smelled of wee), and all sorts of fantastic places. But pick an area where you think you can stay pretty local.

It rains virtually every day in Donegal, but usually only in the morning, then the afternoons are stunning. But this, coupled with the bad roads, makes a lot of travel unwise.

I hope I have not put you off this. In truth it was a bugger to get to, and not a picnic to get around, but absolutely otherwroldly beautiful.
