looking at flights to visit my sister in australia (brisbane) next december..

went with singapore airlines who were excellent, but air etihad are the cheapest flights i can find by quite a bit..

just trying to decide whether they would be an absolute bargain or life threating mistake

any help appreciated!

I haven't flown with Etihad personally, but know several people who have. Everyone gave good reports of the flights/food etc, and they have a good reputation.

Only thing you might want to watch is the length of the refuel stop in Dubai - can be up to 9 nine hours which is a pain especially if you have kids with you.

Thai Airways apparently have the largest pitch (space between seats) which could be important if you are tall, and the asian carriers (Thai, Singapore, Cathay) are all great on service.

Etihad are good. New planes/fleet. You will stop in Abu Dhabi I think as they are their national airline. Not life threatening at all. I've flown with them a few times. My DH used to work with them.

Very good airline, brand new planes etc. Their hub is Abu Dhabi so you will probably have a stop there.

Have flown Royal Brunei and that was a different experience, old fleet and dirty planes. However that was incredibly cheap.

I'm a travel agent and its definitely one that people are asking more for these days. They have a good reputation.

i Flew them to Sydney a year or so ago. they were excellent, (i was in business but all classes looked superior to the BA equivalent). the cabin staff were v good, i would be surprised if they were poached from other airlines. As previous posters have mentioned, v new airline with v new planes, backed by the ruler of abu dhabi (in the same way emirates is backed by dubai). If i was flying somewhere in the future, i would be looking for them as first choice.

They are very good. We used to live in Middle East. Lots of expats used them. DH used them for Abu Dhabi business.
