Experiences of driving to S. of France in one go?

We've pretty much decided on a Canvas site in the Languedoc for our holiday in June. We also think we'd prefer to do the drive in one go rather than having an overnight stop.

So, I'm just trying to find out tips and advice for the long drive. Things like best time to do it, how often you tend to need to stop and how long for. And any other useful stuff would be much appreciated!

Mand DH here...

We've done a few long journeys in France. As others have said, one go to the Languedoc is possible, but really wouldn't do this unless you (and DCs) are used to VERY long periods in the car.

A stop 1/2 way makes the whole thing much less stressful.

We went to the Languedoc in 2008 and found a fantastic little Logis de france just off the m/way South of Bourges (which turns into the A75 Millau v/duct route)

If you're willing to spend a litle bit more than the budget chains I'd really recommend this place; lovely food, but very child friendly and not too posh IYKWIM.

Kids still talk about it now (2 years later!)

Thanks Mand's DH - I've seen lots of your advice on the previous threads I've searched on this - all very helpful.
