moving to canada when baby is born

We're moving from the UK to Canada for a year when baby is 4 weeks old. I am trying to get organised and buy a buggy and a car seat that will be compatible for both UK and Canadian standards. I was hoping for a car seat that clipped into a pushchair but it seems almost impossible to buy a Canadian approved car seat in the UK that can clip into a pushchair. Does anyone have any experience of this? Or any top tips for moving abroad with a 4 week old?

I don't think you'll find a Canadian approved car seat in the UK. I was confident that the UK standards were just as high as Canadian so we continued to use our own from the UK, but then our boys were already at high-backed-booster age/size, with absolutely no visible difference in the style of seats.

The forward-facing baby car seats are noticably different, as they must be affixed with a tether to a bolt behind the seat of the car, in Canada.

I can't say I've noticed any difference in the first stage rear-facing infant seats, but there may be subtle differences...

Do you not have the option of buying a second hand infant seat from a trusted friend (so that you know it's not been in an accident or is too old) to use for the first few weeks after the baby is born, and to get you to wherever you need to go, from the airport, in Canada? Then buy new when you get here:

Make sure to have health insurance for the first 4 months as there is a waiting period in most of the provinces for the medicards.

We use our Uk bought car seat as the standards are probably more rigorous anyway. I'd buy you stroller in the UK, based on what I've seen here, it will be cheaper. Also stock up on different age gap clothes of brands you like as the selection depending on where you are moving to could not be very good.

All the best with the birth and the move.
